How Does Liquid Silicone Rubber Molding Work？
Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) molding is a specialized process that involves injecting LSR into mold cavities using a liquid injection molding (LIM) machine to produce high-precision, durable silicone parts. The process is carefully managed through several key steps to ensure that each part meets stringent quality standards.
Key 1: LSR Material
LSR is a two-part, platinum-cured silicone. Component A contains the base material, while Component B includes the curing agent. These components are stored separately and fed into the injection molding machine through a precise metering system that mixes them at a 1:1 ratio. If colored parts are required, pigment is added during this stage.
Key 2: Liquid Injection Molding (LIM) Machine
The LIM machine is specifically designed for LSR, providing precise control over shot size, injection speed, and pressure. The mold is heated, and the liquid silicone is injected into the mold cavities, where it begins the curing process.
Key 3: LSR Injection Mold
The liquid silicone rubber mold is crafted using high-precision CNC machining to withstand the high temperatures/size tolerance required for LSR processing. The combination of heat and pressure in the mold causes the LSR to cure, transforming it from a liquid into a solid state. Once the material is fully cured, the mold opens, and the parts are removed.
